Concrete / Epoxy
Glossary of Terms
aggregate - crushed stone or pebbles added to concrete mix. Aggregate size and type of stone
in concrete should be based on total thickness of pour, desired strength and finish characteristics.
efflorescence - deposition of salts on surface of concrete resulting from chemical
impurities in sand, aggregate or other contaminants in concrete mix. May also result from
water-borne minerals or impurities deposited if water leeches through concrete pores
then dries on surface.
laitance - condition which may occur if concrete is mixed too wet causing
cement in mix to rise to surface as concrete cures. A residue of cement dust will be
deposited on the surface, and additionally may cause spalling as concrete mix will
become cement deficient.
spalling - concrete surface crumbling
